We have family in Kansas that lives in a friendly little town
called Fredonia. My dad and mom took a trip down to see them and,
in visiting them, learned of a gentleman who lived at the edge of
town. His name was Leland Baughman. Leland had collected tractors
and engines most of his life.
Dad spent a wonderful afternoon getting to know this gentleman.
After returning home from the trip to Kansas two weeks later, we
learned Leland had lost his life in a tragic tractor accident.
Our family in Kansas told us about a year later that
Leland’s family was going to have an estate sale, so we made
plans to attend. We purchased this 1938 B John Deere from the sale,
brought it home, and four years later started restoring the
tractor.
Leland had taken very good care of the tractor. I am very proud
to have been able to work with one of his tractors. Leland was a
fine man and this tractor is a good way for us to remember our
friend.
We always meet good folks when we are tractor and engine
hunting, and would love to hear from anyone who enjoys this
hobby.
