Here are a couple of pictures you’ll enjoy. The first is my
latest restoration project. It’s a 4 HP Bulldog made by Bates
and Edmonds, of Lansing, Michigan, and sold by Fairbanks Company. I
wish I had an interesting story to tell about it, but I don’t.
I basically got it in a ‘horse trade’ from Ed Deis at the
Canandaigua, New York, engine show in 1994. It was running when I
got it, but was painted copper. I had to get a muffler for it, and
I also had a new crank guard cast for it, using the crank guard
from my friend’s identical engine.
The second two pictures are of a garden tractor that I found in
the brush behind my in-laws’ house. It is a Planet Jr., made by
S. L. Allen and Company Inc. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, serial
number 335192. It has a 3 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. It needs a
bit of work and I would like to get it running. If anyone has any
info on it, I would like to hear from them.
