Tyler Harmon, age 3, is shown above with a 10 HP 1HC Mogul
engine, which was owned by his great-great-grandfather.

The picture (Above) shows my grandson Tyler Harman, age three,
with a 10 HP IHC Mogul engine. Tyler is the sixth generation in his
family with this engine. The engine was owned by his
great-great-great-grandfather and was sold new at the local IHC
dealer about two miles away, so it never got very far away.

The engine is serial #FB799, which makes it a 1919. It is still
in original condition, with some paint striping still visible. The
engine was sold at public sale in 1970 for $550.00. At the time I
had no idea what it even was. I bought it back a few years ago. The
only difference was that now I knew what it was, and the price was
quite higher. Fortunately, the engine was still in original
condition.

Tyler seems to know what to do to try and start it. I think it
will be a few years before he can start it for me, but he likes to
try anyway. I think right now riding on the seat is his favorite
thing to do.

I like to see the little ones take some interest in these
engines. Tyler can practice on many engines, because we have about
60, of all sizes. I like the Moguls the best. I have a complete set
of screen-cooled portables from 4 HP to 12 HP, and hopper-cooled
portables from 4 HP to 10 HP, except for an 8 HP portable that we
haven’t found yet. Maybe Tyler will find one someday if I
don’t.
