Young Rider

I remember with pride
Our first tractor ride.

On an old ‘WC’,
Grandpa, Dad and me.

Perched on a fender.
Vibration made me tender.

Like being in a parade
With an army brigade.

A feeling of strength and worth.
In the field, turning the earth.

Dad’s face shone in wonder
As sod was turned under.

Grandpa had mixed emotion
Because of his horses’ devotion.

We now had a modem farm.
The memory still keeps me warm.
