Lately, I’ve had a few minutes bumpin’ together. Had to
slow down–pump trouble, you see. Had time to ponder a few things.
Maybe someone has the right answers to the following.
This started the day one of my friends came into the shop.
‘Got any parts for a Witty?’
‘A Whatty?’
‘No, a Witty.’
Then it came to me–he meant a Witte. ‘Not at this time,
maybe later.’
Now, I always referred to these engines as a Witt.
Another one of these is a Jaeger. I’ve heard them called
‘Jagger’ or a ‘Yayger.’ I always called them
‘Jay-ger.’ Which is right?
And, of course, there’s a Wico. Is it Wee-co or Wy-co? I
always went by the former, myself.
A sure sign of that strange affliction called Enginitis. You get
it when you’re too close to rusty iron. Sure hope they
don’t find a cure!
