I found this lawn edger and got it working, and I got to
wondering what else it could do.

I had an old Delco alternator around the shop (the older type
without the built-in regulator). I hooked it up and now have a lawn
edger/generator.

The way I have it wired, I can get about 90-100 volts DC,
depending on load and rpm. The DC is okay for running lights or
electric drills. The engine is a 2 HP Briggs and Stratton.

I have had a lot of fun with this project.

Note: the wooden shroud has since been replaced with a nice
metal one to cover the pulleys and belt.
