We got a letter this month about the amount of material we
publish on the subject of garden tractors and lawn mowers. We
recognize that these more modern machines are not of interest to
some, but a growing number of our readers seem to be sending us
stories about them. Since GEM began, it has welcomed articles not
only on stationary gas engines, as some think the name implies.
Tractors have been an integral part of every issue, and there have
been numerous stories over the years on marine engines, lawn mowers
and garden tractors, to be sure.
In addition to providing an open forum for articles and
commentary on all manner of gas engines, we try to avoid
categorizing our subscribers’ submissions as ‘worthy’
or ‘unworthy.’ Since we work with all varieties of
material, from barely readable Polaroid snapshots to beautiful
professional photographs, there is often a disparity of
‘quality’ in both the pictures and the text. We think
that’s what’s so great about this magazine! It’s real
people writing their own stories and using their own pictures
without a group of ‘experts’ deciding whose is worthy and
whose isn’t.
Another thing I need to mention we always try to mail by the
seventh of the month preceding the publication month, but there ARE
glitches that occur. Sometimes the magazine goes out BEFORE the
seventh, sometimes a few days after, so you can’t count on
getting it on a particular day each month. It will vary! Also,
remember that if you get a renewal notice in the mail, you need to
send it in promptly to avoid missing an issue. If for some reason
you fail to get a notice in advance, keep your eye on your expiring
issue which is always printed above your name on the label, and be
sure to renew at least sixty days before the beginning of the
expiration month. That’s it for now, enjoy the many shows and
auctions advertised in this issue!
