EMERY A. ‘TOM’ THOMPSON, 90, 338 Chestnut Street,
Versailles, Ohio died Friday, March 13, at 3:25 a.m. at his home.
He had been ill for two years.
Born December 7, 1907, in Oran, he was the son of Offie and
Bertha Millhoff Thompson. He was married October 21, 1939, to the
former Esther Weidner. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas of Arcanum and Arthur of
Celina; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step
grandchildren; one brother, Harvey; and seven sisters, Clora May
Holsinger, Gladys Painter, Ruth Mills, Dorothy Johnson, Opal
Schneider, Mary Byers and Delores Black.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
He was a member of the Darke County Steam Threshers Association
for 30 years, a member of the Portland, Indiana, Antique Engine
Association and attended church at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Versailles. He formerly worked as a mechanic for Claude Rhoades and
retired from the Miller-Meteor Company in Piqua in 1972.

This is in memory of the best friend I ever had, RALPH L.
HOLBROOK, 75, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, a man who loved his family
and enjoyed the camaraderie of the many engine shows that we went
to. He enjoyed the many friends he made throughout the years at
these shows. He painstakingly attended many an auction to buy
tractors and engines, not only for himself, but for his sons. We
grew very close throughout these years and I’m very glad I had
this opportunity to spend the time and to get to know a very well
known, very well liked and beloved man.
He was a very mechanically inclined man with a great knowledge
of tractors and engines and how to repair them. He was helpful to
anyone who needed ad -vice or help with a problem. A man who gave
up the early part of his life to defend his land so that his
children would also have the opportunities that he had.
He raised five children and was blessed with many grandchildren,
all of whom he loved with all his heart. I am proud to have known
him, call him best friend, but most of all, call him DAD.
We will all miss him dearly. But the Lord said he must come
home, so I say sadly, good-bye for now, you are in the best hands,
the Lord Almighty, Alleluia!
