Where does the time go? Here it is September already many of you
will be busy with your club’s shows this month. Soon enough
it’s back to school for the kids, and autumn will officially
begin.

It’s hard to think ahead to autumn; as I write this note to
you, the East Coast is in the grip of an unrelenting heat wave (the
weatherman predicts a cooling trend for this weekend, but I’ll
believe it when I see it). Although it’s sweltering outside, we
must consider ourselves fortunate to be spared the devastation that
has been visited upon our friends in the Midwest. Our thoughts are
with our readers and friends who are battling the floodwaters of
the Mississippi, Missouri, Raccoon, and countless of their swollen
tributaries. Drop us a line if you have an interesting story to
tell about the ‘Flood of ’93,’ especially as it might
relate to the engine hobby.

Associate editor Gail Knauer is ‘recovering’ quite
nicely from the Gas Engine Extravaganza in England and Wales,
noting that the trip was ‘packed from start to finish with
loads of engine activity,’ and that it was a pleasure to meet
so many of the readers. ‘I’ll admit I’m not usually a
group traveler, but I really enjoyed this particular crowd,’
she said. Many of those making the trip liked it so much that
they’re ready to go again next year; I don’t know if it
will happen that soon, but another Gas Engine Magazine Tour
isn’t such a bad idea, in light of this summer’s
success!
