At the age of 71 I got the hit-and-miss bug. I thought the best
way to become knowledgeable was to start from scratch.
I bought a 2 HP Fairbanks-Morse dishpan Z with only the
crankshaft, piston and a cracked head. The FM Type R high-tension
magneto and cast iron camshaft gear bracket weren’t a match. Then I
milled the cast iron bracket off until the gears meshed. The timing
