Amana, Iowa will be the site of the 1988 World Ag Expo featuring
the World Ploughing Match, Sept. 7-10, 1988. The overall theme is
‘A Celebration of Agriculture-Past, Present and
Future.’

The ‘Avenue of Progress’ is one special area on the EXPO
exhibit field where machines of the different periods of
agriculture’s past to the present will be displayed. The
Merchants National Bank of Cedar Rapids is the sponsor of this
event. Contact people for the ‘Avenue of Progress’ are:
Andy B. Appleton, Merchants National Bank, 222 2nd Ave SE, Cedar
Rapids, IA 52401, 319-369-4837 and Roger E. Mohr, Route 1, Box 153,
Vail, IA 51465, 712-677-2433.

The mission of the Avenue of Progress is to produce a
self-explanatory display of progress in agricultural mechanization.
This display will be of high quality and informational value. The
general layout will be by time of production and manufacturer.

In the display, organizers would like to have both power sources
and machines that utilize power to do work. The decades of at least
1900 through the 1980’s should be represented. Many
manufacturers’ sources and uses of power shall be included.

The solicitation and selection process for exhibits is already
well under way. The process will be somewhat of a first come, first
serve basis, with consideration given for quality, uniqueness, and
duplication of exhibits. Over 2 acres of display area is
available.

The organizers need your help and hope for offers of creative
exhibits. The application process is simple: send a non-returnable
photo of your display idea to Andy or Roger and put your name,
address and phone number on the back so they may contact you.

Expected attendance at the event is 250,000, and exhibitors will
receive plaques.
