The twelfth annual antique power show conducted by the Tuscarawas Valley Pioneer Power Association was held at the Tuscarawas County Fair Grounds, Dover, Ohio, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Aug. 15, 16, and 17, 1975. This was one of the best shows held. The Association officers wish to extend their thanks to the committee chairmen and members, to the exhibitors, and most of all to the visitors, for a very good show.
The paid attendance for the three days was 6211 persons, age twelve and over. Also attending were a large number of the Association’s 309 members whose entrance was covered by the membership fees.
Twenty steam traction and portable engines, 6 to 65 H.P., 2 threshing machines, 1 hand fed baler, 2 saw ‘mills, 1 shingle mill, and various pieces of equipment were in operation during the entire show. The Baker fans and the portable DC generator ‘Power Eater’ provided the belt loads for the steam and gas tractors.
Fifty-three gasoline and kerosene tractors, 10-20 to 25-40 H.P. were on exhibition and in running order. Included in this group were four Rumely Oil Pulls, 12-20 to 25-40 H.P.
Fifty-nine antique automobiles and trucks were on display, and participated in the Sunday afternoon parade, along with the steam, gasoline, and oil tractors.
There were 217 gasoline and kerosene stationary engines, from washing machine to saw mill size, in operation with power driven machinery. Table mounted steam and gas model engines, boilers, pumps, and associated machinery were shown in operation by their owners and builders.
A variety of merchandise was on display and for sale. Concession food and drink stands were available for the visitors and workers.
The old time Fiddlers’ Contest on Saturday evening, and the Alpine Harmon airs on Friday evening made the entertainment features of the show a success. Lloyd (Whitey) Beechy manned the PA system during the evening entertainment, and for the parades.
The 1976 show is scheduled at the same location: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 20, 21, and 22nd.
