Lance Alspaugh lifts Wayne and Barb Singer’s W-4
McCormick-Deering into the air to advertise last year’s
Fairfield County Antique Tractor Show at Alley Park.
I thought I’d share some photos from the Fairfield County
Antique Tractor Club’s annual show last August at Alley Park
near Lancaster, Ohio.
The show included about 85 tractors, two threshing rigs, a
sawmill and a prony brake. They also had horse pulling, tractor
pulling, mule pulling, hit-and-miss engines, a large display of
antique tools and implements and free horse-drawn shuttle rides for
everyone.
The show grounds are adjacent to U.S. Route 33, so to advertise
the show Lance Alspaugh of Spires Transfer (Lancaster) offered the
use of his 180-ton crane to hoist Wayne and Barb Singer’s W-4
McCormick tractor 115 feet into the air. The tractor was attached
to the hook of the crane with four Kevlar lifting straps, each
capable of holding 60,000 pounds. At approximately 4,500 pounds the
W-4 was clearly no problem for the
180-ton, all-wheel drive, all-wheel steer crane. It would take
an additional 79 tractors of the same size to equal the capacity of
the crane.
