Through the courtesy of Lewis H. Cline, 603 Fremont St.,
Middleville, Michigan 49333, and with the kind permission of
International Harvester Company, 401 North Michigan Ave., Chicago,
Illinois 60611, we are printing a series of interesting information
from the book Internal Combustion Engines and Tractors.

Anyone having tractors will find these articles very valuable
and those who do not have tractors will find them interesting. This
is the fourth contribution with more information on oiling the
Titan 10-20.

TITAN 10-20 – A Twin-Cylinder

Valve-in-Head Kerosene Tractor

MOTOR — A twin cylinder valve-in-head kerosene-burning motor
that is silent, smooth running, and a giant for power.

MIXER — Uses without change of parts gasoline, benzine,
naphtha, kerosene and distillate down to 39° Baume. Valve, after
being opened, automatically supplies water in proportion to the
amount of fuel being consumed.

GOVERNOR – A flyball throttling governor controls the amount of
fuel entering the cylinders in proportion to the load.

IGNITION — A high tension magneto furnishes current for jump
spark ignition. No batteries needed.

LUBRICATION – A six-feed mechanical oiler keeps essential parts
well oiled. Transmission is lubricated by an oil bath.

COOLING – Motor is cooled by water circulating from a tank
having a capacity of 40 gallons.

TRANSMISSION – A spur gear, selective type transmission,
transmits power from engine to final chain drive. Gears run in
oil.

CHAIN DRIVE – Double chain drive to rear wheels.

STEERING – The steering gear is of the automobile type with
wheel convenient to driver. Worm and gear completely enclosed.

FOUR WHEELS – Stands squarely on four wheels, two large,
broad-faced drive wheels for traction and two front wheels to make
it steer easily.

Fill with a good grade of heavy gas engine cylinder oil. Turn
the crank on the mechanical oiler 40 to 50 times when starting the
engine. ‘1’ – Adjust to feed not less than 7 cubic
centimeters to each piston (25 to 30 drops per minute). ‘2’
– Feed not less than 4 cubic centimeters to each main bearing (12
to 14 drops per minute). ‘3’ – Feed not less than 4 cubic
centimeters to each crank pin oil ring (12 to 14 drops per
minute).

C

See magneto instruction book. Keep enough good lubricating oil
in the transmission gear case to cover the teeth of the smaller
compound gear. About three gallons will be sufficient and it may be
poured in through filter pipe in the hand hole cover at the front
end of the gear casing. Oil should be kept about even with the edge
of the hand hole opening. IMPORTANT —  In cool or cold
weather the oil in lubricator tank must be warmed, as it will not
flow readily unless of the right temperature.
