‘AUTOMATED’ MAIL BOX – There are rural mailboxes going
up in the area that show the ingenuity of the owner, in the forms
of miniature farm buildings, covered bridges, wagon wheel standees,
etc., but none can approach the originality of this
‘automated’ mail box now gracing the lane leading to the
Gene A. Bollmeier home on the Baldwin Road. Bollmeier, who collects
old gas engines as a hobby, used this small model as part of his
mail box motif. Of course the magneto is missing, and the gas tank
dry, so there is no danger of it starting chug-chugging. Motorists
can’t quite believe their eyes when they see it. The box has
been up only a short time, but Bollmeier says that most cars that
pass slow up to get a closer look. — Grover Brinkman Photo
