The tenth annual Autumn Leaves Crank-Up was held on October 6,
7, and 8 in Boone, North Carolina. There were 154 registered
exhibitors including 240 engines, 26 models, five tractors, one
W-power unit, two portable steam engines, and one traction engine.
There were also lots of antique tools, toys, grist mills, some hot
air engines, and pottery was made. Also on display were apple
peelers, plus apple cider and corn meal being made. Nine states
were represented at this year’s show with one family traveling
571 miles to attend. On Sunday 58 people attended the worship
service.
A new attraction featured at this year’s show was an
engine-related auction with 67 registered bidders taking part.
There are 35 members in the Carolina Fly Wheelers Club.
Please take note of a change in dates and location of the 1990
show. It will be held on July 27, 28 and 29, 1990 at the High
Country Fairgrounds in Boone. For those considering attending this
year’s show, there are many tourist attractions, craft and gift
shops, beautiful scenery, and shopping available.
