In 1992 we started a new tradition in our family: using an antique gas engine for our Christmas tree stand.
The engine we chose is a Woodpecker owned by my father-in-law Don and my husband, John Bernaski, of Amsterdam, N.Y. Long ago Don’s family used a Woodpecker engine on their farm, so we thought using this engine would give some memorabilia to all of the family and friends that entered our home.
We put the tree in the water hopper and water it once a week. We enjoy looking at it and thought you readers might, too. This photo was taken December 24, 1993 and our children Christopher (8) and Kalia (6) enjoyed waiting for Santa to visit, hoping that he doesn’t start the engine up.
