The first engine purchased by museum co-founder Dr. Paul Harvey in October 1958, it spent its working days driving a water pump for a gas well drilling rig.
The engine is on display in the window of the Coolspring General Store, which has been in continuous operation since 1904 and is essentially unchanged with its potbelly stove, operational gas lights and service as the town’s post office.
The Coolspring Power Museum will feature Hercules engines and Hercules manufactured engines sold under other brand names in 2009.
