3 HP Best Gas Engine

Last issue we ran a photo of Frank Ferguson’s 1892 3 HP Best
gas engine. Built in San Leandro, Calif., by Daniel Best (who was
probably better known for his enormous, three-wheeled steam
traction engines), Frank’s engine is the only 3 HP Best extant,
and as such rates right up there on the rarity chart. That picture
prompted GEM reader and California engine historian Jack Alexander
to send in this catalog cut of a 3 HP Best gas engine he came
