Ralph Harmon, Dallastown, Pa., doesn’t know a whole lot about his 1-1/2 HP Perkins air-cooled engine other than you don’t see them very often. The upright engine needed a little work when Ralph acquired it, but nothing that a friend, Dale Hess, Winsor, Pa., couldn’t help him with. “The carb was screwed up and the igniter didn’t work but Dale replaced those,” says Ralph.
Ralph isn’t sure of the technical details on his engine but does know a little bit of background. “It was used in construction as a pump,” says Ralph. “They didn’t have to worry about it freezing because there wasn’t any water in a hopper.”
