Mark Bacon, 81 State St., Groveton, New Hampshire 03582 sent the
photo at right, saying, ‘This is my homemade pumping unit. The
engine is a Briggs and Stratton. It was off a reel type lawn mower.
The two big pulleys are from a Maytag dryer. Half inch bolts hold
the pulleys to the frame. There is a quarter bolt on the second
pulley, and this bolt lifts the pump handle. The spring pulls the
handle back down. A dishpan holds the water for the pump. The
suction pipe is about six inches long. This unit is so simple it
works in both directions.’
