September 15-17, 1995 we held our show at Atkinson, Illinois,
with Heritage Day for Antique Engine and Tractor Association, Inc.
It is a day set aside for local school children and retirement home
residents, and provides a rare opportunity for young and old to
learn, reminisce and enjoy our Midwestern heritage!
The show began with breakfast Saturday morning. Following the
meal were Working displays such as a sawmill, shingle saw, oat
threshing, mall board plowing, corn binding, along with crafts and
an antique flea market, providing the activities throughout the
day.
Special events on Saturday included the Tracker’s Sky Dive
Team of Annawan, Illinois, providing a morning chute landing
demonstration, while the ‘River Bend Pullers’ had a tractor
pull through the afternoon.
The static tractor display of 60 units, plus various makes and
models, featured the Minneapolis Moline line.
Fairbanks-Morse was in the spotlight for the gas engine area.
The Hopper family of Franklin Grove, Illinois, displayed an
impressive line. A total of 150 or more made a nice running
display.
The schedule wrapped up with a pork chop dinner, and nighttime
entertainment was provided by ‘The Swinging Doors
Band.’
Activities on Sunday featured ‘The Mississippi Valley Garden
Tractor Pullers’ pull and the highly anticipated raffle drawing
in the afternoon! Prizes included a Longaberger basket with dish,
model farm toys, John Deere clock and nice paintings. The big prize
was an IHC LB 1-3 HP gasoline engine, won by three-year-old Bennett
Johnson.
The Antique Engine and Tractor Association, Inc., thanks all of
those who attended our 34th and hope they will come out September
13-15, 1996, for our 35th!
A special ‘thank you’ to the men, women and children who
helped to maintain, display, preserve our nation’s history!
