The Southland Flywheelers had their second annual show Labor Day
weekend Sept. 5, 6 and 7th. Our show grounds are located 6 miles
east of 1-65 on Hwy. 72 between Athens and Huntsville, Alabama on 8
acres of shaded oaks.
Although rain came one day during our show, we had a great time.
The exhibitors did a real good job in setting up and showing.
Thanks to everyone for a ‘safe’ show.
Speaking of RARE engines, we probably had a ‘First’ at
our show as I’ve never seen but one of these engines running at
any show I’ve ever attended. We had two Meitz and Weiss Oil
Engines sitting side by side and running, and boy were they blowing
out the smoke, but everyone loved it!
We also had lots of other beautiful and unusual exhibits. If you
didn’t come to our show, you missed a lot.
Even though we are a young show (2 years), we had 210 engines,
74 exhibitors, 6 tractors, 17 small steam engines, 7 hot air and
solar engines, 2 grist mills, blacksmith equipment and lots of
other small items.
We signed up 11 new members and had $170.00 in donations. We
also enjoyed good food, hamburgers, goat and chicken stew, and
other goodies. Several Flea Market booths provided enjoyment for
the ladies and, of course, the noise and smoke from the old engines
was a treat for them, too!
Hope to see everyone at the Southland Flywheeler’s Show in
