The 1985 Rose City Community Threshing Show was the third one
held on their farm by Harvey and Emmelyn Danielson and their
friends and neighbors (who will be left unnamed for fear of leaving
someone out!) Show day was August 17, a cold and cloudy day.
A pancake breakfast started the day at 7:00 a.m. and at noon,
lunch was served by the 4-H Club.
The activities for the day were threshing with steam power,
horse drawn bundle teams, shingle mill, wood sawing and splitting,
a large gas engine display and rope making. The saw mill had some
problems, so very little lumber was cut. There also was a wood
craft display, water coloring, and oil painting.
There was a display of old cars by the Vintage Car Club from
Alexandria, MN. The West Central Minnesota Muzzle Loaders put on a
demonstration.
The first show Harvey had was a gas engine show with only his
engines on display. He called it a Spring Gas Up. The second show
was a bit larger with a few people bringing displays, and they did
some threshing. The third show, as you can see, was much
larger.
This may be Harvey’s last show, as it is a lot of work and
the Spruce Hill Foundation would like to take over the show and
make it into a fund raiser and a two-day show. The date for 1986
has not been set.
