The new year has brought exciting changes to the Michigan
Flywheelers Museum of South Haven.
Long time president Fred Krizan of Bangor decided not to seek
reelection after many years of involvement with the organization.
Vice president Patrick Ingalls of Bangor was elected to replace
Krizan. Krizan said that he felt it was a good time to leave the
museum, as he felt it was running very well with the present Board.
He also wanted more time to spend with his family and more time
working on his hobby of collecting. Krizan had been instrumental in
the development of the museum’s antique engine and tractor show
since its beginning.
Ingalls, a collector of Michigan windmills, has also been very
involved in museum activities, and had been vice president for the
last four years. Director Larry Weniger of Grand Junction is the
new vice president.
This year’s Swap Meet/Flea Market dates are June 19-21.
Members voted recently to change the admission charge to the event
to a $3.00 parking fee and a vendor fee of $25.00.
Director Ed Hills of South Haven was elected financial secretary
in November; Rich Smith of Gobies, and Elden Janke of Benton
Harbor, were reelected Directors.
The 1998 Antique Engine and Tractor Show will be held from
Thursday, September 10 through Sunday, September 13. Featured this
year will be Case tractors and ‘Michigan made’ engines. An
exciting feature of this year’s show will be the newly built
viewing area at the saw mill. This was finished in late October and
covers both the bleachers and the mill.
The Thursday night ‘Jam Session’ will be held at the
show again this year. Exhibitors are encouraged to bring their
instruments and participate. ‘Sweaky’ the clown (member
John Dudley) has volunteered to be our show announcer. Due to
popular request the ‘Ugliest Tractor Contest’ will be
brought back this year. The only requirement for entrants is that
the tractor must run. Judging is done based on earning points for
different categories that only the judges are aware of. (Hint: duct
tape earns a point!) In addition, members have been working on
expanding and finishing the non-exhibit camping areas.
Plans continue to be under way for the construction of an 80 x
100 foot main building that would house farming exhibits as well as
a stage and small concession area. Fund raising has begun among the
South Haven business community and through grant writing.
Completion is scheduled for fall of the year 2000.
