One of the goals for 1993 is to increase the number of branches
in the National. I am happy to announce that Branch 44 has been
formed in Conway, Missouri. They are known as Conway Flywheel and
Toy Association. President is Harold L. Dill, Rt. 2, Box 580,
Niangua, Missouri 65713; Vice President, Chris Hyde, Box 56,
Conway, Missouri 65632; Vice President and Secretary, Enos Hawkins,
Rt. 19, Box 285, Lebanon, Missouri 65536; Treasurer is Curtis
Wills, P.O. Box 445, Lebanon, Missouri 65536. We welcome them into
the National and wish them well.
Branch 13 prepares for National, which will be June 11, 12,
& 13. This will be the 13th annual Grass Valley Gas Up
presented by Branch 13. Grass Valley is located in the cool and
scenic foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Grass
Valley/Nevada City area was one of California’s major gold
mining areas from the time of the Gold Rush in 1849 well into the
twentieth century.
We welcome Cluinebaug Valley Branch, Waterford, Connecticut to
the National. Officers are Richard Babbitt, President and Larry
Dudek, Secretary. They will be known as Branch 5, replacing the
branch in Michigan which chose to withdraw from the National. We
are sorry to see the old Branch 5 leave the National and would like
to wish them well with their future endeavors.
The ’93 show season is in full swing around the nation and
Springfield, Missouri is not different. Branch 16 held their annual
swap meet in early April. The weather was perfect, and with the
good turnout, a lot of rusty iron changed hands. Not only was
Branch 16 well represented, nine other national branches were in
attendance. They came from Kansas, Arkansas, Texas and several were
from Missouri. An auction was held late Saturday afternoon with
items donated by members. The proceeds were used to help pay
expenses and to make next year’s swap meet even better.
During your show, encourage all members to continually be on
alert for safety hazards. If your branch does not have a Safety
Officer, we encourage you to elect an officer and give him the full
support needed to enforce these safety rules. If you have a Red
Cross Chapter in your area, invite a representative to your club
meeting, instructing methods of first aid to your members. Branch
16 had this type of meeting and it was well received.
As we close this article, we are looking forward to attending
the Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Show, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. This
is the home of Branch 4 and is always an outstanding show. We will
report on this and other shows in the next issue.
