The 38th annual EDGE&TA National Show was held June 13 and
14, 1998 at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds in Chowchilla, California,
and was hosted by Branch 18. Our hats off to Branch President Jim
Moore and his fellow club members for their hard work and attention
to every detail. This was made evident by all the great comments
that I heard. Other branches that helped were 3, 6, 8, 13, 22, 30
and 63.

It was announced that there were 145 tractors and 390 gas
engines on display. Besides the above mentioned, there were craft
booths, a swap meet, thrashing, equipment parade, and my personal
favorite, a Farmall C with two engines, two transmissions and two
rear ends. A very interesting piece of equipment. I only wished I
could have talked to its owner.

Many clubs were raffling off small gas engines and other items
as fund-raisers. Branch 18 was raffling off a Massey-Harris
tractor. The drawing was held during the National meeting, and you
might know the branch president, Jim Moore, pulled his name from
the hopper! Being the gentleman that he is, he redrew a new name
and a new winner was picked.

In case you are wondering why I am writing the GEM report, my
very good friend, Charley Stark, who used to send in this article,
has stepped down from the National Board of Directors and left this
job to me. Our best wishes are with Charley and Betty.

My next report will be about some of the regionals held during
the 1998 show season.
