On June 26th and 27th the Central Massachusetts Steam Gas and Machinery Assoc, Inc. held its Sixth Annual Yankee Engine unity in Action Show at the Orange Airport, Orange, Mass.
The weather gave us some anxious moments but finally cooperated to give us two beautiful days.
This year’s show proved that hard work and careful planning really are the clues to a successful show. A final count gave us a total of 286 exhibitors displaying 392 engines, 36 antique cars and 13 miscellaneous exhibits. The exhibitors came from Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland and Massachusetts. Thus making it one of our biggest shows ever, and exhibitors saying ‘One of the finest in New England.’
Spectators numbering between fifteen and twenty thousand enjoyed watching engines of all sizes and makes both gas and steam. Shingle making, threshing, log hewing, dray saws, water pumps, live steam table and a great deal more were some of the exhibits offered for the spectators viewing.
Plenty of food was available with our Senior Citizens selling homemade pies and coffee which seemed to appeal to many a sweet tooth.
Also offered was a large flea market with a separate section for crafts that offered many a great buy.
Complementing our show was an antique car exhibit as well as a Fly-in sponsored by the Athol-Orange Aero Club with over 200 antique and homebuilt aircraft on display.
Thanks to the untiring efforts of many of the Club’s members and a big thank you to the ladies who helped, made our show most successful.
As usual all exhibitors received free buttons, ribbons and plaques. Admission was free.
