It was May 29th, 1982 in McGaheysville, Virginia. The weather
was beautiful. It was 5:30 A.M. and I pulled in at my brother
Dick’s Village Market. My Moline Universal, my brother
Dick’s Cross Mount Minneapolis, and Ted Craun’s Twin City
were already lined up in the field behind the Village Market. Bob
Burkholder’s Waterloo Boy tractor was also there, along with a
couple of John Deere tractors. There were also several flea markets
waiting for daylight to spread their wares. Daylight came and other
flea market dealers showed up. There was a church group that sold
many baked goods. A total of 76 engines showed up. There were guys
there from the other engine show areas, such as Waynesboro,
Berryville, Barboursville, Madison, and Bridgewater. My brother
Dick and his wife Phyllis sold hot dogs and drinks for 25 each,
which was a refreshing and an enjoyable change from today’s
inflated prices. There was one antique car. There were many
visitors throughout the day. I think word got around about that 25
hot dog!

Dick had scheduled the show for the 29th and 30th, but it was
rained out on the 30th.

The first show was a great success. The show plaque read:

First Annual Village Market Antique Gas Engine Show and Flea
Market, McGaheysville, Virginia, May 29th and 30th, 1982.
