The Early American Steam Engine & Old Equipment Society
presented the 35th annual Steam-O-Rama on October 1-4, 1992 at the
showgrounds on Manor Road in Lower Windsor Township, York County,
Pennsylvania. Our feature this year was farm equipment and
accessories manufactured in York and York County, Pennsylvania.

The York area has made vast contributions to this country’s
rich agricultural heritage, and the E. A. S. E. & O. E. S.
wanted to created a showcase for these items. Over 86 exhibitors
came to show over 200 separate pieces of equipment, accessories,
and literature. They came with York and Capital gas engines, Hench
and Drumgold and Auchey planters, corn shelters from Hench &
Drumgold, Root & Case scales, troughs from many different
foundries, W. C. Hildehrand and Acme Jr. Wagons. Plate mills, corn
crackers, etc. came from far and near to help demonstrate York
County’s part in the industrial revolution. All or the York
pieces were exhibited in a special area set aside just for that
purpose. Of course no display of local pieces would be complete
without a Pullman car, a Farquhar steam engine and Sheppard
diesels.

This was so successful that the board of directors has decided
to repeat the York exhibit every five years. So get out your York
manufactured pieces, dust them off, and start planning for
1997.

We remain a small, friendly show with good food and fun for all
ages. The York County Sheep and Wool Growers bring us a petting zoo
for the little ones each year.

Lamb sandwiches and baked potatoes are served throughout the
four-day show. Our own kitchen serves a varied menu of great food
all day, every day. And outside, the crew is making soup, apple
butter and pan haus over open fires.

Each year we strive to make improvements and grow a little by
bringing a few new people to our little corner of York County. The
1993 Steam-O-Rama dates are September 30, October 1,2, and 3rd. We
will be featuring tractors and accessories manufactured by the
Oliver Corp. Look for our display at the York Interstate Fair from
September 10 to 18.
