Return of a Family Farmall

I’ve been collecting antique tractors since about 1979 when
I was able to find and purchase the first tractor my grandpa
purchased new in 1935, a Farmall F-12. Over the years, I’ve
added another ten to fifteen tractors to my collection, but my
favorite and a crowd’s favorite-is this 1942 war-model H
Farmall. This tractor has no starter, lights, or battery, and is on
steel, as there was a shortage of rubber during the war years.

I purchased the tractor on an auction near the Badlands of
western South Dakota in the summer of 1984. There were over 150
antique tractors on the auction, but this one caught my eye.
Restoration, which was done during the summer of 1985, included a
complete overhaul, plus complete exterior parts and paint. I
finished the paint and it barely had enough drying time before I
took it to Madison, South Dakota to the annual Prairie Village
Jamboree. This year it again made the trip to Prairie Village as
well as to a local home town parade, and it won a first place
trophy at a nearby antique tractor pull on July 5, 1986.
