As I write this letter, there are major storms being reported all over the country, but we know spring is coming because our 1987 Steam and Gas Show Directory has finally gone to the printer and will probably be on its way to those of you who have ordered it in a few short weeks!
Last year, our Directory was 80-pages, which was the biggest we'd had, but this year we were surprised at a response which turned the 1987 edition into a 96-pager! We're deeply grateful to all of you who take the time and effort to get the information to us, and for the support of our advertisers.
We had a special treat this January, as Chuck Wendel, our columnist came East with fellow engine enthusiast, Jim Patton of Hiawatha, Iowa. The reason for the trip was to pick up a truck load of books for Chuck's library (see REFLECTIONS for details). Anyway, it was a real pleasure to finally meet a man who has contributed so much to the engine collecting hobby. And Jim had a pleasant surprise when the two men arrived here after a two-day trip. His model OilPulls were featured on our February issue, and he didn't know anything about it. The magazines had just arrived here from the printer and weren't even in the mail yet!
