Major Acquisition in Vermont Museum
Frank G. Wilson is curator of The Wilson Collection, at River Road at Basketville, Putney, Vermont 05346. In addition to boasting the world's largest collection of fine basketry, The Wilson Collection has early American farm tools, equipment and accessories, and is open by chance or appointment. Recently, Frank apparently decided to add more engines to the private family museum, and went after them in a big way! Shown above is a truck loaded with 79 engines he acquired at one time.
Frank writes, 'I would not do it again, because there was some breakage.' There are now about 250 engines in Frank's collection and he trades duplicates for engines he doesn't have. Frank has representatives of all the engines made in Vermont, including Abenaque of Westminster, United States of Vermont Farm Machinery Co., Bellows Falls, Stoddard of Rutland and Gray of Middletown Springs.
