The 22nd Annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show, sponsored by Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association, Inc., was held at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Indiana on August 27-30. The 1987 show was the largest ever in several ways for Tri-State. Gasoline engines registered totaled 2,788. There were 410 tractors exhibited, of which 75 were the Wallis/Massey featured line. Garden tractors numbered 50, steam engines 6, and miscellaneous exhibits 191. Exhibitors represented 29 states, the District of Columbia, and three Canadian provinces.
The 1987 show had a printed program available. It detailed the daily activities and provided times, a map, and other useful information for show attendees. Sawmilling, threshing, blacksmithing, and operating of the Association's 100 HP Fairbanks Morse engine were among the variety of attritions.
The Trading Post was again operated by Tri-State and traffic was heavy in this consignment operation. Several dealers offered engines, parts, and supplies and this too was a popular feature. About 150 quality antique and arts and crafts dealers displayed and sold their wares.
Musical entertainment, good food, and visiting with old friends and making new friends, all made for four fun filled days. Tri-State will continue to strive to sponsor one of the largest and finest shows of its kind in the world. Tri-State thanks all of its fine exhibitors and visitors for their support. Tri-State's 23rd Annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show is scheduled for August 25-28, 1988 at the Jay County fairgrounds in Portland, Indiana. Please bring your engines in 1988 and help us have 3,000 gas engines registered. If you have attended the 'Portland Show' before, come again. If not, please plan to make 1988 the year that you come to the 'Portland Show.' Tri-State will welcome you!
