Attention! All you gas and steam engine collectors and traders out there! As show season approaches, mull over in your mind for consideration the possibility of a visit to Boone, North Carolina. Located high in the tall northwest Carolina mountains (elevation: 3,333 feet), Boone was recently named one of 'The 100 Best Small Towns in America' in which to live.

Located in this small town is a very enthusiastic and dedicated group of people who belong to the Carolina Fly-Wheelers Engine Club. The Fly-Wheelers hold a show every summer. Thirteen did not prove to be unlucky as they held their thirteenth annual crank-up. With the largest numbers of both engines and spectators, the show was held July 24-26, 1992, at High Country Fairgrounds and Raceway.

The event featured a wide variety of engines. A mid-day count on Saturday showed the following on the grounds: 190 hit and miss engines; 63 small engines, including Briggs & Stratton; 29 Maytags; 25 models; 24 tractors; 5 steam engines; and one hot air engine.

There were also people from many different clubs, as well as adjoining states with their displays. We always appreciate their support and contributions to our shows.

A popular event during the three-day show is the annual auction of engines, engine-related items and antiques. These items are usually actively bid upon, and a good time is had by all.
