Just a few details of our Pioneer Machinery Club. We are now two years old and growing a little all the time. We meet in the old City Hall of Merrill, Iowa, which is donated to us through the good Mayor Melvin Kolker of Merrill.
Throughout our club is a lot of machinery owned by the members. I'm sure there are over 500 units of both gas and steam engines, old tractors, wagons and farm machinery of the past.
Dr. Newman of Orange City, Iowa, has one of the most complete numbers of horse drawn machinery, all restored and painted like new. He also has a very nice herd of pure bred draft horses that can't be matched for many miles around.
We are proud of our club and last year when the town of Le Mars had their Centennial, we had nine units in the parade which was more than any other club or business displayed. We also display at the Plymouth County Fair and at Merrill Town and Country Days.
A photo of our club button. We are now two years old and have some thirty members from four states. (Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota). We charge $2.00 for the initial fees and so far have not had to charge any more.
Part of our display at the Plymouth County Fair. The corn planter in the foreground is over 100 years old.
Lester Williams with his 1923 Fordson tractor that runs like new.
The gas engines and tractors at the Fair. The panels in foreground are barbed wire displays from the collection of our member, Bill Felton.
An Air Motor Gas Engine that is like new and belongs to Frank Boyer of Hinton, Iowa. Myself and the 8 hp. Associated gas engine. It is now painted and runs really nice.
One of our members, Joe Orbon of Merrill, Iowa, and his Fordson tractor and Woods Bros, threshing machine. Joe still cuts, and threshes over 80 acres of oats every year.
Some of my tractors I have to be restored. From front: Model CC Case, 10 x 20 IHC, D John Deere, 22 x 36 IHC, D. John Deere (restored), G. P. John Deere, old style Model B. New Style Model B. Hercules 5 hp. John Deere, 5 hp. Witte, The truck in background is a 1920 traffic over top of Case and 10 x 20 can be seen on a flat bed of engines we had at the fair this year. Cement mixer at left, has a United engine on it.
My 10 x 10 I.H.C. Too bad this can't be in color as the tractor is painted in the original colors. The 22 inch McCormick Deering threshing machine is all painted in red, white and blue -- makes a very nice looking outfit.
