PUBLISHER’S LETTER

By Staff

Last September, we received a letter from Wilfred E. Mole, of
The Veteran Farmer (Die Veteraan Boer), a South African publication
‘dedicated to keeping alive memories of bygone farming
days.’ There is a group there working on a special program
known as ‘The Great 100 Working’ event planned for April 18
and 19, 1998. In connection with this event, the group seeks to
purchase a large prairie tractor (a Rumely, Minneapolis, Emerson
Brantingham, or something along those lines), hopefully one with a
10-bottom plow. If anyone can be of help to Mr. Mole in this
regard, please contact him at PO Box 408, Halfway House 1685,
Republic of South Africa. Telephone 27(0)12 631587, Fax+27(0)11 805
1309.

A sad note: We recently learned that Peter Letourneau, the most
widely published farm tractor author and editor in the world, lost
his life in an automobile accident. Letourneau, a former Case
dealer who also worked for two international companies involved in
agricultural equipment and chemicals, has authored or edited 22
books, all of which are still in print, including titles on Case,
John Deere, International Harvester, Fordson, Oliver, Caterpillar,
Minneapolis-Moline, and others. He leaves behind a wife and four
children in Stillwater, Minnesota.

We need to put out another gentle reminder that your magazine is
NOT late if you don’t receive it until the end of the month
before the cover month. Please don’t call our office to report
a late magazine before the first day of the cover month. We have
recently had a representative of our mailing house take a bundle of
magazines to a postal official and ask whether there is anything we
are failing to do that might lead to damage in the postal system.
The answer we received is that our mailer is doing everything
right, and the Post Office is responsible for damaged
magazines.

We wish for you all the best of holidays, spent in the warmth
and comfort of a home filled with loving family!
