Thomas (Tommy) E. Hoodenpyle, 76, Earlington,
Ky., passed away on Dec. 30, 2003. Tommy was a founding member of
the International Harvester Collectors Kentucky Chapter 24, holding
membership number eight. He was an Army veteran, a member of the
Masonic Order, and a member of the American Legion and Salvation
Army Board of Directors. Tommy was an enthusiastic collector of
International Harvester tractors (his F-20 looked new), and he will
be missed at our Red Power shows and meetings.

Chapter 24
Chan Mason, Oneida, N.Y., passed away suddenly
at the age of 67 on Nov. 29, 2003. He was an avid, long-time engine
collector, buying and selling between 200 and 300 engines.
His most notable engine was a 6 HP circa-1903 Badger made by
C.P.&J. Lawson, one of perhaps three or four known to exist.
This engine was featured in the January 2001 GEM. His other
favorite engine, which he often ran at shows such as Flywheels and
Pulleys Club Old Time Gas and Steam Show in Constableville, N.Y.,
and at Coolsprings, Pa., was a 22-1/2 HP circa-1910 Bessemer
two-cycle oil field engine. He also wrote several articles for Gas
Engine Magazine, most recently in the March 2003 issue.
Chan was a photographer and salesman by trade. A true
renaissance man, he had multiple talents and interests including
music, trains, flying, skiing, fishing and snorkeling. Survivors
include his wife, Kay, and children, Beth, Chris and David, and
their families.

Russell Eugene Cooperrider, 79, of Glenford,
Ohio, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at his residence.
Russell was born April 1, 1924, in Glenford. He was a member of
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Glenford and worked as a farmer. He was
a member of the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association in
Portland, Ind., Stumptown Steam Threshers Club, Stumptown, Ohio,
and was an avid gas engine collector for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Hazel Clara (Justice)
Cooperrider; three daughters, Linda Wolfe of Columbus, Ohio, Carol
Garrett of Columbus, Joyce Ford of Pickerington, Ohio; a son, Jim
(Rose) Cooperrider of Hebron, Ohio; one daughter-in-law; six
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bob Burkholder, Mt. Crawford, Va., died on
Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at the age of 83. For 35 years he was an
engine and tractor collector and restorer, and for the last few
years a model engine builder. He attended 16 to 18 engine shows
each year in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania,
showing and trading his model engines.
He is survived by three sons; Harold, Owen and Richard; a
daughter, Patricia; six grandchildren; and seven great
grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and many
engine friends.

Gilbert E. Fox, 78, of O’Neill, Neb.,
passed away on Feb. 18, 2004. Gilbert was known to many as ‘The
Gade Man.’ He enjoyed researching and keeping a registry of all
the Gade gasoline engines he could locate. Gilbert traveled to many
states and shows, sharing his passion for Gade engines with
hobbyists across the country.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris, in
December 2003. He is survived by three daughters; six
grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was loved by his
family and many friends, and will be greatly missed.

Kenneth Kinnear, East Angus, Quebec, Canada,
age 75, passed away on Nov. 20, 2003.
Born and raised on the family farm at East Angus, Kenneth went
to trade school and later built a shop on the corner of the family
farm where he repaired, built and maintained equipment for farmers
and small businesses. He was a natural born mechanic, and with a
piece of wire, a pair of pliers and a screw driver, he could make
any engine run.
He collected old cars and engines, and also owned and used the
original Ford 9N his father bought new. He was a staunch member of
the Eastern Township Antique Machinery Club. He enjoyed going to
shows with his engines and helping others solve their engine
problems.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Alice Dearden; a son,
Randy; two daughters, Shelly and Sandra; one grandson; and two
step-granddaughters. He was one of the last of the great old
mechanics and is greatly missed by all.
