The year 2000 will be a benchmark for the Spark Plug Collectors
of America, as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of the
organization, at the National-International Convention in Portland,
Indiana, August 21-26.
The convention is being held in conjunction with the Tri-State
State Gas Engine and Tractor Show at the Jay County fairgrounds.
Spark plug collectors from across the world will be on hand for
this year’s special celebration.
Some of this year’s activities will include a road trip to
the Ohio Military Museum, a club banquet, the big benefit spark
plug auction, and of course the club meeting. The Spark Plug
Collectors will try again to break its previous record of over
5,000 plugs on display, plus there will be plugs for sale and
trade.
Everyone is welcome to attend the convention, and there will be
collectors on hand to identify plugs you may have.
The Spark Plug Collectors of America is an international
organization, founded in 1973 by Bill Bond of Ann Arbor, Michigan,
dedicated to the promotion of spark plug collecting, the research
and preservation of spark plug history, the exchange of information
and spark plugs, and the fostering of fellowship among members.
Annual dues in the Spark Plug Collectors of America are $20.00
USA and Canada, and $25.00 overseas, and include a subscription to
the quarterly club magazine, The Ignitor. A sample copy
may be obtained by writing Jeff Bartheld, at the above address.
Two regional meetings will also be held this year. The Midwest
Regional Meeting will be held April 29 at the LeSueur County
Pioneer Power Association Swap Meet in LeSueur, Minnesota, at the
vice president’s stall. The Eastern Regional Meeting will be
held October 6, at the A.A.C.A. Swap Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania,
at Robert Harrington’s stall in the Green Field. All club
meetings are 10:00 a.m. local time, and collectors will be on hand
to identify spark plugs. Everyone is welcome to attend.
