Mt. Everett Regional School Everett, Massachusetts 01257
Mt. Everett School in Sheffield, Massachusetts, has a reputation
for being an innovative school. It is recognized regionally with
its scheduling reforms and its progressive curriculum in the form
of ‘The Odyssey Program’ in the high school. As an ongoing
part of the middle school interdisciplinary approach to learning,
the staff plans to hold an old time gas engine and history show at
the school on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4. The school has
received the support of the Hudson Valley Oldtime Power
Association, who will sponsor the event with Mt. Everett
School.
Prior to the show the students will be involved in all their
classes on various topics related to the gas engine revolution of
the early 1900s. Students will be writing essays, working on labs,
and some students will be involved in actually rebuilding gas
engines. Members of the H.V.O.T.P.A. have already volunteered to
conduct classroom demonstrations on the unique features of the gas
‘ engines and the purpose of their hobby. The Association has
even donated a gas engine to be restored by the students. Community
members, from tractor repairmen to automotive restoration shops,
and the Sheffield Historical Society have volunteered to assist in
making this the best learning experience possible.
They encourage and invite oldtime gas engine collectors to
participate in this show. Your attendance and enthusiasm will help
make this a reality. The show will be a great opportunity to help
the hobby grow and for young people to interact with adults.
The show will be held at Mt. Everett School, in Sheffield
(located in the southwestern corner of Massachusetts, bordering
Connecticut and New York), on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4.
Flyers are available and anyone with questions can call Paul Menin
at 413-229-8652.
The school staff and students look forward to meeting many of
you at the show. See you there!
