Riverbend Steam and Gas Association sawyer, Lee Scholma, faces a
challenge at the show.

The hands of time were rolled back once again at the annual show
of the Riverbend Steam and Gas Association of Allendale, Michigan.
Located just south of Allendale on Claude Scholma’s farm, this
show retains the rural atmosphere of times past when the present
pieces of antique farm machinery provided the means for achieving
America’s agricultural greatness.

The Riverbend show prides itself in active displays of nicely
restored machinery reminiscent of America’s agricultural
history. A well-filled program was provided for visitors at the
show, which included wheat threshing, sawmilling, grist milling,
corn husking, shingle making, stationary baling and a special treat
of homemade ice cream provided by the ladies of the club.

Newly restored items are always evident at the show. David
Kemler’s ground up restoration of a 16 HP Gaar Scott steam
traction engine provided smooth power for the sawmill and a 28′
Advance Rumely wood thresher. Bud Rosema’s newly restored 20-40
opposed cylinder Case tractor just made it in time for its first
showing ever. Not to be out done by the men of the club, Mrs.
Claude Scholma exhibited a newly restored Huber tractor which even
rated a carpet on the deck. Of course, her husband, Claude, had
something to do with this restoration.

We thank the Lord for the good weather and we thank Him for
keeping the show free from accidents.
