The 1969 Annual Reunion of the Pioneer Gas Engine Association,
Inc. was held on August 1-2-3- on the Carnival Grounds in
Fairville, N. Y. The weather was good. A nice sized crowd viewed
the many exhibits. A count shows that there were 177 gasoline
engines, 27 tractors, 60 models, 47 pieces of allied equipment, 4
walk behind tractors, 48 pieces of household antiques, 1 antique
truck, 1 traction steam engine and 2 stationary steam engines, 1
large D. C. generator with 4 cylinder engine and 1 lawnmower.
Displayed for the first time, was the 30-60 Rumely Oil-Pull
tractor, owned and beautifully restored by David Shearns of Marion,
N. Y. He brought this big plow tractor from Iowa.
It is our custom to have a queen at each of our Reunions. This
is usually a lady who has been associated in some way with rural
living during her lifetime. Our Queen for the 1969 show was Mrs.
Myrtle Norton of Syracuse, N. Y. She and her husband, Arthur,
celebrated their 50th Wedding Aniversary last year. She has been
very active all of her life, from helping with the many farm
activities to being a mail carrier. She is still active in the
Grange and had several food exhibits at the New York State Fair
this past summer.
We now have an original watch fob for sale. It has our
trademark, an 1887 Otto gas engine, on the front and our name on
the back. You may order one from our President, Donald A. Luteyn
Sr., 226 W. Main Street, Palmyra, N. Y. 14522. The price is
$2.75.
We are now taking memberships. The dues are $2.00 per year. All
members receive our bi-monthly news bulletin, the Pioneer Engine
Bugle.
