The 1990 16th annual Mechanical History Show at Rochester,
Minnesota July 28-29 went off without a hitch. Well, almost. The
oats were bound and shocked a week in advance, and then it rained
cats and dogs for a week. 90% of the threshing took place a week
after. However, we prayed for sun, and that’s what we got
during show hours.

Case was featured, and we had a nice array of orange (and gray).
Best pre-war Case was a 12-20 by Russ Church; best post-war was a
VAH by Loren Simmons. Ed and Carla Schuth captured non-tractor
honors for their nice exhibition. Best non-Case was the famous V8
8N of Palmer Fossum, and best engines went to Wayne Welch for his
excellent display.

We couldn’t plow, so we had four slow tractor races, two won
by a 9N of Leonel Xuya of Guatemala. A horse pull was very popular,
and a parade of power was used both days. The petting zoo was a hot
item.

The mud was abundant, and the old tractors got a workout pulling
cars and trucks free. A large number of all color tractors was
appreciated by the crowds. An interesting interview was taped with
Mr. Merle Moenke, a Case dealer from 1931 to 1960. He had some
tales to tell, and many of his customers were on hand to
debate.

So, in spite of rain, a good time was had by all.
