Our annual show was a great success again this year. The weather
held good again with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures.
This was our 14th show held October 4, 1997.
This year as usual, a variety of antique equipment was brought
in a large tool collection, small engines, large engines, Model T
Fords, and tractors. Lloyd Klassen brought a number of his IHC
equipment. Lloyd is into IHC no matter what it is and he has
several pieces to prove it. E. J. Gosnell of Isabella, Oklahoma,
has about the largest collection of antique tools there is. He has
a special trailer dedicated to these tools, and it is full when he
has it set up. Ryan Koehn of Ringwood, Oklahoma, brought a
well-restored 1914 IHC Famous 2 HP engine. This engine was found in
the basement of a house that was about to be moved by Henry Martins
of Fairview, Oklahoma. The engine was in good condition from being
in the basement through all these years, and all it really needed
was minor repairs and paint. The repairs on the engine consisted of
the oil slinger and the valves. The Model T Fords made a good
showing this year again, and what slick Model T’s they were.
Chances are they didn’t look that good when they rolled out of
Henry Ford’s factory. Harold Cooper is our local REO collector.
If it’s REO he is interested. He brought out some examples of
his collection this year, like his 1930 fire truck and a 1948
wrecker. Harold also brought out his 1913 REO that he is currently
working on. This is going to be one sharp vehicle by the time he is
finished. David Blakely of Douglas, Oklahoma, brought his 1938 UDLX
Minneapolis-Moline tractor. There were only 150 of these tractors
built and he has number 3 2. We are gaining a collection of crawler
tractors at our show. Lloyd Klassen has McCormick-Deering and Cleo
Phil-brick has his Fordson on tracks; both are from Enid, Oklahoma.
Lloyd brought an unusual Cletrac this year. It is a 1922 Model F.
Lloyd says this tractor spent its younger working years in southern
California before being bought by a collector in Denver, Colorado.
Lloyd brought it to Enid, Oklahoma, and will finish restoring
it.
Each year we have someone chosen to receive an award. This award
is called ‘King of Old Iron’ and is given to someone who
contributes time to the hobby of old engines and tractors. This
year the award was given to Herman Moore. Herman is a local man who
deals in antique tractors and parts. He is also a man who will do
what he can for you if you are in need of help or looking for that
certain part, or a whole tractor. Everyone into the restoring of
old tractors knows Herman.
As usual we had the beans and fixings at noon. This menu has
been popular and will continue to be a tradition with Enid Antique
Power. It is mostly the efforts of the wives and families of the
show participants who take care of the setting up and serving.
