Anyone who has had the opportunity to attend the Western Minnesota Steam Thresher’s Reunion at Rollag, Minn., is familiar with the 600 HP Snow engine on display there. Considering its size and reliability, the Snow was one of the most impressive engines ever made. See for yourself in this video and note the beautiful song it seems to make while it’s running:

Also worth noting is this engine has a sister, and it’s currently being re-constructed at the Coolspring Power Museum. They’ve been documenting the process with photos and periodic updates that you should definitely check out.

Whow! this sure brings back some old memories. My dad worked for Cities Service Gas Co. from in the 1930's till his retirement in 1960. It was a natural gas transportation co. operating in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and into Nebraska. I got to see a number of their compressor stations and engines in my growing up years. They used a number of Snow compressors and Cooper Bessimers. The Snows were a little different than the one in your video. As I remember they had long push rods that operated somewhat vertically beside each cylinder. That was back in 1958 that I last saw A Snow compresser. Thanks for the recall.
