Marlene and I are pleased to announce that a date has been set to launch the schooner Larinda. After more than twenty-six years of work and joy, along with a few hardships, we plan to launch Larinda on September 28, 1996, at the Sandwich, Massachusetts, Marina located next to the Cape Cod Canal.

Larinda is a modified replica of the colonial schooner Sultana which was built in Boston, Massachusetts, during 1767. I say modified replica, as many changes have been made in the original design, including a small increase in length.

Another interesting addition is our choice of auxiliary power. A 1928 Wolverine diesel, rated at one hundred horsepower at 350 rpm, has been fully restored over a ten year period. It is now installed and ready to go.

We would like to invite everyone to come and witness this spectacular event. The festivities will start early in the morning and last all day. Several television stations will be on hand, along with many other types of media.

At this time I would like to ask your help with part of the festivities. We would like to christen Larinda with a bottle containing water from the oceans of the world. If one individual from each geographic region would send a small amount of ocean water to our address, the christening will touch everyone from around the globe. Wouldn't that be exciting?

Marlene and I look forward to everyone's visit and I promise it will be a day to remember.
