The 1992 show season is well underway. Branch 16 had our annual swap meet in April. We had good weather and lots of iron changed hands. Branch 4 had their annual show the first weekend of May in conjunction with the Pawnee Oklahoma Steam Show. This is always a good show with all equipment in operation.
I know that this article is to inform you of activities of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association, but I would like to tell you about the Frisco Steam Locomotive Number 1522. Burlington Northern Railroad held Family Days at Springfield, Missouri this past weekend (May 15-17). Number 1522 was steamed up and moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Springfield, Missouri, under its own power.
Number 1522, a 4-8-2 Mountain-type passenger engine, was built in 1926 by Baldwin at a cost of $70,000. The engine was used for years and handled passenger trains out of Kansas City and occasionally St. Louis. It was retired in 1959 to St. Louis County's National Museum of Transport. The 1522 has received restoration through the all-volunteer efforts of the St. Louis Steam Train Association.
It was a wonderful sight to see and hear this great locomotive pull out of Springfield and head to St. Louis early that Sunday morning.
