A 2-1/2 HP John Lauson Finds New Life

Jesse Cook sends in this photo of his 2-1/2 HP John Lauson hit-and-miss. Jesse has owned this engine, s/n WA63464, for two years. When found, it was still on its original skids, but in running condition. Work has been limited to a cosmetic restoration, including new skids.

This particular engine was originally sold by Tranner Machinery Company, Pittsburgh, Pa., and its exact year of production is unknown.

The John Lauson Manufacturing Co., New Holstein, Wisc., began the manufacture of gas engines around 1895, staying in business until 1935, when the company was sold and reorganized under the Hart-Carter Co. of Peoria, Ill.

Contact engine enthusiast Jesse E. Cook at: 2423 Younger Dr., Charleston, WV 25306.
