On the Prairies of Northwestern South DakotaBy Frank J. Burris,1102 Box Canyon Road, Fallbrook, California 92028 This is a snapshot of an old gas tractor which operated on the prairies of Northwestern South Dakota, Meade County, around the good old year of 1912. It is submitted for publication in the hope that some Old Timer may identify its manufacture. It is an interesting design; having high wheels both front and rear which certainly makes it much more effective in traversing soft ground. I would guess that the motor was a four-cylinder horizontal, similar to the Aultman-Taylor, having a fan-cooled radiator. While it appears that this engine may be driving a thresher, it appears that the engineer has allowed his saddle horse to stand by, in case??? Any identification would be appreciated. 732 of 732 characters shown.
