In Memoriam

STERLING McKINNEY, 76, and his wife JEAN were killed August 16, 1986 in a head-on collision in Yellowstone National Park.

The couple were married in 1942 at Havre, Montana, and moved to Culbertson in 1947 where he was in partnership with his brother in McKinney Motors and she worked as bookkeeper for the firm. They retired in 1978.

He was a charter member of the Northeast Montana Threshers and Antique Association, serving as its only president for 23 years. He was fire chief of the Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years, active in Lions Club, and on the school board. He also served on the board of Roosevelt Memorial Hospital and was active in Boy Scouts, serving as scoutmaster. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a past member of the Havre Elks Lodge.
